General Educational Coordinators's Desk
Message from the General Education Coordinator’s Desk
Ensuring access to education for the Dalits of India has been the greatest challenge for the Indian government in diminishing the social effects of the caste system, which still remain entrenched in Indian society. The Dalits, also known as the scheduled caste or untouchables, have experienced consistent denial to access to education since the 1850s. In fact we are proud that our founder Fr Michael Ansaldo SJ is one of the earliest educationists who offered education for the dalit girls and child widows as early as 1775.
At present the Mission of FSAG Education is to provide an education of quality and relevance to all, and in particular, to the rural women . Quality education in the true sense produces persons with thought and feeling, with eagerness to share, persons who are capable of looking to nobler things in life. It has reference to things like the all-round development of the person, humanism, authentic values, intellectual curiosity and acuteness, aesthetic sensitivity, reading habits, character formation, social awareness, healthy relationships, refined manners, dignified self-presentation, intelligent and clear self-expression, good diction and thoroughness about everything one does.
An Education that leads the young into the sacred space of the human person and of every person, making them aware of the inalienable human rights of every individual and group. This helps to foster pluralism, cultural and religious diversity, individual and collective freedoms and respect for and appreciation of differences, in the face of a globalized world that aggressively pushes towards economic and cultural uniformity
FSAG is running schools and colleges all over India and Myanmar. Our sisters are also offering humanitarian services in Egypt, Germany, Austria and Italy. In Puducherry for example all our schools are situated in dalit localities and systematically empowered hundreds and hundreds of poor students through our selfless services.
In this digital era the educational system is undergoing a paradigm shift and our portal is offering digital resources to be of great help to all our institutions including higher and school education. We have also uploaded our education policy document to be great help to our sisters and others as well. In deed we are determined to offer holistic education to all in particular to the rural poor and form world citizens in an atmosphere of Christian values.
May God bless all the endeavours to establish His kingdom through our education ministry.
Sr. Dr. A Antony Maria Jansi
General Education Coordinator.
